    Alcaliber received license to conduct the cultivation & production of alkaloid extracts ('NRM')

    License extended to APIs Manufacturer

    ALCALIBER invested in a new facility to enhance the extraction and purification of NRMs

    ALCALIBER implemented advanced percolation extraction technology and expanded purification capabilities with a new production building

  • 2016

    Authorisation for cultivation, production & manufacturing of Cannabis derivatives

  • 2020

    A dedicated site for the production of cannabis-derived APIs and pharmaceutical bulk products was established

  • 2023

    To support growth, ALCALIBER added a grade D cleanroom to facilitate the production of more complex APIs

Chief Executive Officer

José Antonio de la Puente

José Antonio joined Alcaliber in 2004 as Managing Director, having served as Secretary of the Board of Directors since 1999. From 2018 to 2021, he also held the role of CEO at Linneo Health, the first company in Spain licensed to cultivate and sell pharmaceutical cannabis.

With over 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, José Antonio has navigated the transition from a Family Office to a Private Equity environment. Prior to his time at Alcaliber, he held several key positions at Torreal, Alcaliber’s former parent company, including Head of Legal and Tax and member of the Board of Directors for various portfolio companies.

He holds a law degree and a Master’s in Business Law, supplemented by ongoing education in business and finance. Outside of work, José Antonio enjoys football, golf, reading, and, above all, lifelong learning.

 

Chief Operations Officer

ABIMAEL CUMPLIDO

MEng. Industrial with a Business Management Degree, Executive MBA at Instituto de Empresa (IE) Business School and a Master in Strategic Operations Management and Innovation, with more than 22 years of experience, 12 of them as Chief Operations Officer and more than 4 at international level, as an expatriate in The Netherlands and England.

Most of his professional career has been within the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector, having worked for companies such as MSD, Insud Pharma, Synerlab, Eurofins, Sylentis PharmaMar and Alcaliber, always in the Operations area, with different human teams, projects, responsibilities and locations, either in Spain or Europe.

Sales Director

ANA HIDALGO

Ana joined Alcaliber in 2017 as Sales & Business Development Manager with focus on promoting the international expansion of APIs, before being appointed to the Chief Commercial Officer.

Ana brings over 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry to this position. Her career began in large pharmaceutical companies like Aventis and Sanofi where she was covering several positions in technical areas.

She continued her career in the CDMOs field, leading technology transfer projects of a wide range of pharmaceutical forms, including ampoules, syringes, vials, capsules and tablets.

She holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and an MBA from the IE business school.

In her free time, Ana loves sports and travelling.

Plant director

David Morchón

David Morchón joined Alcaliber in 2019 as Production Manager and was promoted to Plant Director in 2023. He brings over 20 years of experience in industrial production, having held various positions across different companies, including:

• Shift Manager and Technical Services at Crystalpharma-Curia (Valladolid)
• Head of Technical Services and Plant Manager at Crystalpharma-Curia (Malta)
• Deputy Director at Crystalpharma (China)
• Maintenance and Engineering Manager at Antibioticos de León (León)
• Plant Manager at Bioraw-Amri (León)

David holds a degree in Chemistry with a focus on Organic Chemistry, a Master’s in Management Development, and is a certified specialist in Safety and Occupational Health. 

 

AGRICULTURAL DIRECTOR

Fernando Martín

Fernando holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, with a specialization in phytotechnics (crop production). He furthered his education with a Master’s in Production Management and Industrial Process Improvement from the University of Barcelona-EAE Business School.

Before joining Alcaliber in 1996 as a production technician, Fernando gained experience in poppy cultivation at Francopia (France) during the 1995-96 agricultural season. Since 1998, he has served as Alcaliber’s Agricultural Director, leading a team of about thirty people across three key departments: Crop Production, R&D, and Agricultural Transformation.

Fernando has been instrumental in establishing Alcaliber’s agricultural production centers and the Agricultural Transformation Center in Albacete. Together with his technical team, he also designed and developed Spain’s first medicinal cannabis transformation center in Murcia, as well as the country’s largest medicinal cannabis production facilities, both for controlled (greenhouse) and outdoor cultivation, now managed by Linneo Health.

Professionally driven by challenges and the pursuit of excellence, Fernando is always eager to explore new paths and reach new heights. This passion extends to his personal life, where he enjoys traveling and mountain climbing, preferably with his family and always with a camera around his neck.

Quality and Regulatory Affairs Director

Gema Hernández

Gema Hernandez joined Alcaliber in 2020 and currently serves as Director of Quality and Regulatory Affairs. Prior to this role, she held various positions within the company, including Head of Regulatory Affairs and Global Head of Regulatory Affairs and Quality. From 2020 to 2022, she also served as a Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance Assessor for Linneo Health, a pioneering pharmaceutical cannabis company in Spain.

Gema holds a degree in Pharmacy, along with advanced degrees in Project Management, Regulatory Affairs, and Food Security. With over 13 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, she has worked in regulatory affairs, quality management, and as a qualified person for companies like Sandoz Pharmaceutical, Galenicum Health, and MSD.

Gema combines her passion for the pharmaceutical industry with her love for family, travel, and exploring gastronomy wherever she goes.

 

Finance Director

Iñigo Garate

Iñigo Garate joined Alcaliber in 2022 as a Finance Executive with over 26 years of experience. He began his career in Audit with Arthur Andersen and Strategic Consulting with Andersen Consulting. Prior to entering the pharmaceutical industry, he held several key financial management roles over the past 15 years in the food industry, including Finance VP for Europe, Asia, and Africa at Bimbo Group, and Director of Financial Planning and Business Controlling at Deoleo.

Iñigo has a proven track record in developing growth strategies, financial planning and business controlling, business transformation and restructuring, M&A, as well as debt and equity financing processes and business integrations.

He holds a degree in Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE).

 

 

Sales Inventories Operational Planning  Director

Marta del Valle

Marta del Valle joined Alcaliber in 2007 as a Controller and has since taken on roles of increasing responsibility over the past fifteen years. With over twenty years of professional experience, most of which has been in the pharmaceutical industry, Marta began her career as an auditor at Ernst & Young and Deloitte & Touche, where she audited companies across various industries.

She holds a degree in Business Administration from the Colegio Universitario de Estudios Financieros (CUNEF), Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

 

 

Human Capital Director

Víctor M. Encinas

Víctor Encinas joined Alcaliber in January 2018 as the Human Capital Director, bringing over 30 years of experience in executive roles across legal, human resources, ESH (Environment, Safety, and Health), and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Before joining Alcaliber, he served as the Director of Human Resources, Prevention, and Environment at Grupo Empresarial Uniarte, where he managed a workforce of over 800 employees and also held the position of Secretary-Counsellor on the Board of Directors. Víctor has deep expertise in labour relations, restructuring, and collective bargaining.

He holds a Law degree from the Complutense University of Madrid
